We feel Larry's
story is the saddest one on this site.
Larry is a 4.5 month old Labrador. After being sold by the breeder he was
discovered to be ill. The new owner eventually took him back to the breeder for a refund. By the time the breeder took little
Larry to a vet he had been sick for several days. When the vet diagnosed Tetanus and stated the estimated cost of treatment,
the breeder opted to have Larry put to sleep.
Instead the vet asked that Larry be signed over to him. He then
treated Larry for free, while his vet nurse Christina took Larry home. Recovery will be slow, currently his back legs are
rigid but should slowly improve. Members of www.Biggsd.com have contributed to his hydrotherapy and we at www.dogswheels.com
built and donated this, his first set of wheels, and we have undertaken to provide bigger carts as he grows.
With his rigid rear legs, the stirrups were useless at the rear, so we tried moving them onto the side rails.
This worked well enough for Larry to walk unaided for the very first time. We filmed this first time, you can see the
video below. Having run around, he then lay down for a rest. Christina tells us that he slept for ages afterwards and
now charges along behind her on his lead.
You can see more about his story, and the progress he's making on
the BigGSD forum, here and here. Make sure you read all of the pages!
